Two friends and I stayed in the Souan Machiya for four nights in April (at the peak of Cherry Blossom season, it turned out!). We were absolutely delighted with the accommodations. It's a beautifully restored historic home in a great location; very quiet and private yet in the midst of everything. It has a wide range of amenities including washing machine, wireless and a laptop, and a dreamy bathtub. The management representative, Hiro Araki, was terrific, willing to make dinner, performance, and airport shuttle reservations for us in advance. I highly recommend the Machiya Residence in Kyoto and look forward to returning for a longer stay.
