The Jewish ghetto on the east bank of the Tiber, near the Isola Tiberina , It's only a 5/10-minute walk from Campo de fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Venice Square, Via del Corso, Trastevere, Etc.
For centuries, Rome's Jewish ghetto has been the site of both relentless persecution and the undying pride and solidarity of a tight-knit community. Via del Portico d'Ottavia in the richest in history - the Theater of Marcellus, Portico d'Ottavia, , is right there and in the immediate neighborhood there is Piazza Mattei with its beautiful fountain and Palazzo Costaguti with its great frescos that Stendhal mentions in his "Promenades dans Rome".
This main drag — the best-preserved of the old streets — is a fine place to get a taste of yesterday's ghetto and today's Rome. From the start (near the ruins of the Portico D'ottavia), look down the street. On the right, in the distance, is the most important line of old ghetto building fronts.
