The Deep Ellum area of Dallas, was jumping with nightlife in 2004 and before, but because the city has changed their zoning restrictions and many locations did not conform, things have changed. The number of bars and restaurants had shrunk over the past few years, but with the opening of the DART green line the area is experiencing another revitalization.
There are several great restaurants worth visiting for both lunch and dinner:
Twisted Root - a burger place created from three executive chefs tired of working the hotel corporate banquet route.
Deep Sushi - really good sushi for lunch or dinner, and they have a Happy Hour Monday-Thursday 5-7pm, so you can also hook up with your friends after work.
This area is home to many artists, musicians, and photographers. With over a dozen of the original warehouse buildings converted to residential Deep Ellum lofts those interested in a more urban lifestyle have several great options. These industrial style lofts range from 600 -3000 sq ft and offer reasonable rental rates. The growing trend in Dallas lofts has greatly contributed to the revitalization of Deep Ellum.
If you love going to see city bands play there are venues to visit such as the Door. The Door has had great bands like Between the buried and me, August burns Red, Protest the Hero, Chevelle, and lots of other local bands. Deep Ellum is a great place to walk around and enjoy the pieces of art that are booming on the weekend. You can enjoy lots of different art paintings on the side of almost every historical building. Everyone is nice and Welcoming here so come visit this great place that is home to many of us!
Deep Ellum is also home to Undermain Theatre at 3200 Main Street. Underman performs experimental works as well as international works. Undermain has produced plays by Mac Wellman, Conor McPherson, Young Jean Lee, Susan-Lori Parks, Sam Shepard, Caryl Churchill and Samuel Beckett. Undermain was founded in 1984 by a group of artists who transformed a warehouse basement under main street into a unique performance space. Undermain completed their 25th season in May 2010.
