If you’re heading to Tennessee on a family trip (with teens), Chattanooga is your best bet. There are many outdoor activities available in a 50-square-mile area (mainly north of Chattanooga).  For example, there’s Savage Gulf, Fall Creek Falls, Ocoee River (one of the best places to raft in the south east and the site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition), Pocket Wilderness hiking areas, Sequatchie Valley and Racoon Mountain.   Plus, there are many Civil War historical areas all over Hamilton County and North Georgia that are truly amazing.  Another fun thing to do is the Aquarium. The new addition - Ocean Journey - is all salt water and a butterfly exhibit.

In downtown Chattanooga there is the usual touristy stuff such as the Aquarium , IMAX, Hunter Museum , Coolidge Park, Walnut St. Bridge, Rock City and Ruby Falls.

The Southern Belle Riverboat is worth the money.  Even though the tables are very close together, it’s a great way to meet new people. You can eat, chat, get up and dance or go out on deck to see the scenery go by.
