- Getting Around Portland is fun and easy!
- TriMet has about 100 bus routes and the MAX Light Rail goes all over the city and out to the Airport as well as attractions all around town, like the Zoo, for example. MAX serves a wide area including the airport, the Expo Center, Beaverton to the west, Gresham and Troutdale to the east, and all the way out to Clackamas Town Center. Take a few minutes to read the maps and schedules located at most MAX kiosks and to purchase the fares required beyond the downtown core.
- The Portland Streetcar runs between NW Portland and PSU and Riverplace. Portland is very people friendly.
- MAX trains and the Streetcars are free within downtown Portland, in an area called the "Free Rail Zone", which was updated in 2010 from the old Fareless Square. Buses are no longer free within this area.
- You can find schedules on routes and times, and info on fares from http://trimet.org/index.htm
- In town, you can also get taxi, Town Car, pedi-cabs (bike that pulls a carriage) and even horse drawn carriages. Enterprise, Dollar, Hertz and Avis rent cars in town at lower prices than at the airport. Zipcar is a great way to rent a car without having to go to a car rental. You can also ride bikes in Portland, considered by many to be the most bike friendly city in the U.S. but use caution when riding in heavy city traffic.
- Downtown Portland is very walkable, with blocks a mere 200 ft long (roughly half the size of many major U.S. cities).
- Rates to/from Portland International Airport: Taxis - $26-$35 (Radio Cab is the only company that offers the $26 rate and you have to call them and ask for it), Town Car - $50, Airport Shuttle- $14 per person. The fare on MAX is just $2.35 for a two hour, all zone ride and there is a station right at the airport.
Shuttles to and from Portland Airport (PDX) and other nearby cities:

There are bicycle rental places around town and the Portland Bureau of Transportation lists about ten places to rent them: http://www.portlandonline.com/transpo... It’s also fun to take a carriage ride through the city. The carriage rides leave in front of the luxurious Riverplace Hotel, but must be arranged in advance. These are private companies that you hire to take you on a carriage ride and are especially popular for wedding parties.
