The day trip from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon South Rim is quickly becoming a "must-do" for a lot of visitors. Here's a few things to bear in mind:

 1. Plan on spending a full day (appx. 15 hours) on this tour. Start time is early a.m. Most tour companies provide pick up and drop off at your hotel.

2. Buy a tour that includes lunch. Some companies provide a sack/ deli lunch, a few provide sit down buffet style lunches  If no lunch included, make sure you get snacks at rest stop. There's plenty of good eats at Grand Canyon Village, especially the restaurant at Bright Angel Lodge but remember this will reduce the time you have to see and do things at the canyon.

3. Book a tour that gives you a minimum of three hours ground time. Its a long way to travel to spend anything less. Many tours include transportation to several of the key lookouts for photos and exploration. Some provide one stop and allow you the freedom to take the in-park shuttles from point to point. Several offer the rim walk and the latest way is to bike the rim. One Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tour Company offers free wi-fi and satellite TV.

4. Pick a company that operates a fleet of buses. Plush seats, in-cabin entertainment, double-paned windows, quiet-ride technoloty: These items are pretty much the norm. Just make sure it is a full size motor coach.

5. Keep your eyes peeled as you depart Las Vegas some tours stop at the Las Vegas sign and you'll come in close contact to Lake Mead, and you'll cross Hoover Dam, with a photo stop on the AZ side.

6. Price for adult are typically $180 in the hotels and can be as cheap as $80 online, making this tour a total bargain.
