Lansing is overall quite safe. There are several neighborhoods it wouldn't be advisable to walk through at night, though none of them are areas tourists would typically go to, and there are no areas that are unsafe to drive through at any time of day.

Petty theft has been a crime at times on campus, and of course, like anywhere, any visitors are advised to conceal valuables in their car, or lock them in the trunk.
