Downtown New Port Richey is famous for its glamorous past and makes a point of celebrating that fact throughout the year. One of the town's award-winning festivals is the Founder's Day, which combines historical exhibits and arts and crafts with live music, food, a carnival and midway rides. The event is put on each year by Greater New Port Richey Main Street, the organization that works to improve and promote the historic downtown. For Founder's Day, Main Street arranges boat and kayak tours of the Cotee River. Past years' events have also included antique fire truck pulls, a NASCAR Virtual Race Experience, scarecrow making and pumpkin painting for kids.
