Key Largo, while famous for adult activities such as diving and sport-fishing, is full of family-friendly activities and should not be overlooked. For adventurous families, the closeby Everglades National Park is full of exotic wildlife, many species living in their only natural habitat in the U.S., and can be viewed either by eco-tour or a fishing charter. For families with children too young to travel by water, a car trip to the Everglades' memorable Flamingo outpost is an unusual treat chock full of alligators and unique birds. Families looking for slightly more tame activities can head to one of several parks on Key Largo for old-fashioned water, sun, and play. The Water Park at Jacob's Aquatics Center at 320 Laguna Avenue provides relatively inexpensive activities for children of all ages, from a toddler pool complete with a mock pirate ship, to a large, olympic sized pool for adults. After swimming at the water park, the adjacent Key Largo Community Park provides land-based fun for kids, including a playground, sports fields, tennis courts, and volleyball courts. For those looking for a beach rather than a pool, the Harry Harris Park and Beach is an oceanside park, with a picnic area, toddler playground, and a child-friendly sandy beach, with free entry during the week and carries a nominal charge on the weekends. Other outdoor family destinations which are free of charge include Friendship Park and Old Settler's Park, both with playgrounds and picnic areas.
