Help Krabi and all of Thailand sing "Happy Birthday" to her majesty, Queen Sirikit of Thailand in August. All over the country, monuments and historical landmarks are decorated with colored lights and ornaments. Music and dance is big in Thai culture, and the International Festival of Dance, held annually in Bangkok every September, reflects this. Performances by artists the world over give the festival a truly international flavor.

For a good laugh (and watch your step), attend the Elephant Polo Tournament in Hua Hin in late September. Teams from around the world compete, and other elephant-associated activities take place, like the Elephant Parade. Hopefully no Elephant Face-painting, though.

October marks the Setting Adrift of the Chao Le Boats from Kho Lanta Island, an annual rite performed by Krabi's Sea Gypsies, in hopes of gaining prosperity and good fortune in the coming year. Nearby Phuket honors Thailand's king every December with its King's Cup Regatta. Begun in 1987, the Regatta has grown to be the biggest boat race in all of Asia. A personal envoy of the king presents the winner's cup to the victor in the culminating ceremony.

Opening the Andaman Sea is a yearly event that takes place in November. This festival marks the official beginning of the tourist season in Krabi, with parades, musical performances, races, and open-air markets featuring locally-produced goods.
