Sharm is not going to win any accolades, stars or awards for the food. Fact. Once you accept this premise there are a couple of pleasant experiences. Cheap it is not, expect to pay GBP30 for a meal plus drinks. Pretty bad wine is £25/bottle. Beer is costly too, but better.

Basics first. There are hygiene issues in some restaurants in this resort and sadly it is best to steer clear of some of the smaller local places unless you can stomach (sic) a few possible days with the runny tummies. For Sharm, if a restaurant is linked with one of the main hotels then it is a fairly safe bet that there are good hygiene measures in place.

Many of the outlets here are run by the same company, for example, the Camel Hotel runs the Pomodoro, Tandoori, Vanilla amongst others.

POMODORO - Italian influence, good variety menu. Pizzas are good as is the fish. Pomodoro is a slick operation with outside table and a/c indoors. Often a waiting list.

CAMEL BAR TANDOORI - Surprisingly good Indian food, well frequented by Brits. Busy. Courtyard setting. pics below:

THE TAVERN BAR -  British Pub Grub .. from Fish & Chips to  Big Steaks & Home Made Chips too

TGI FRIDAY - Just like at home. Great for kids hence lots of noise. (Sultan Qaba St; pic below)

NOVOTEL - great lunchtime food on the beach. Not cheap. But good.

TAM TAM - Egyptian food. Try pigeon here. Clean.

FAST FOOD - McD's 24 hours, KFC and Pizza Hut. Clean.

CILANTRO - Egyptian coffee chain. Relaxed with even more relaxed service. Good snacks.

LA FLEUR - French Restaurant within the Jolie Ville Resort & Casino, Na'ama Bay, on the prom. Expensive in comparison to most places in Sharm but good food & service; nice setting. Fillet is normally good (with morkel sauce) and so is their take on seafood pie/gratinée.

CHINA HOUSE, NA'AMA BAY - Thai, Chinese. (Ensure that you see the drinks prices 1st) Pic below; it's left of the shopping mall, upstairs.

VIVA BEACH - on the prom & beach in Na'ama Bay, opo Red Sea Divers School - varied, reasonably-priced menu, sports tv, lounge area.

DANANEER STEAK HOUSE - Na'ama Bay - Jolie Ville end of His Majesty the King of Bahrain Street - varied menu, including fish.

SOHO SQUARE: - New complex near the Svaoy hotel & airport. Indian, Thai, Chinese & Oriental  / Eastern....4 restaurants all next to each other & the Queen Vic pub further down, plus more restaurants.

SALA THAI - Hyatt Regency Hotel: Nice and very tasty Thai Food, lovely setting - especially if seated on the terrace outside during the spring/summer/fall months. During the winter months, your food will get cold quite quickly. Not cheap, but if you don't drink wine but just a beer each, the food, setting and service is worth it.

CAFE ROYAL - Steakhouse located at Il Mercato opposite McDonalds on 1st floor. It is covered in winter and open air in summer. The food is excellent and well priced, they serve alcohol, wine, beer and soft drinks, the menu is extensive and includes steaks, chicken, pizza, burgers etc. It is clean and shows international football matches. Free wireless internet.

CHURCHILLS CAFÉ - Nabq - Tropicana Grand Azure Hotel, next to the pharmacy: Nice and simple British food, clean. Home made pies, fish & chips and nice steaks with pasta (chef's special). Live sports. Very reasonable prices.
