Teach English for two hours in Luang Prabang
Give something back - meet real locals
Big Brother Mouse is a small centre run by an Canadian ex-pat who has been there for seven years. They translate and publish books for distribution to the rural villages.
Three things you can do to help:
Come along any day, either between 9am and 11am or 5pm and 7pm evenings, to either read with or talk to locals who want to improve their English. It is very informal and conversational. And very rewarding. They need help with pronunciation and confidence, so please spend more time encouraging and helping them talk and not just listening to you.
You can also buy their books here, to take with you on your travels to distribute to kids in villages
If you are feeling very rich ($ 300 or more) you can also sponsor a book party at a local village school. Very, very rewarding!
Big Brother Mouse has moved since some editions of the Lonely Planet book were printed. It is now located on a side street off the main stree of the central part of the Peninsula, behind 3 Nagas Restaurant and Hotel.
You can also speak English with the monks at any of the Wats. About 6pm seems to be a good time. No photographing though. Respect the local customs.
