An island in the Philippines, Bohol is one of the country's top tourist destinations.  It is the Philippine's tenth largest island, and because it is surrounded on all sides by other islands, Bohol enjoys some protection from the tropical storms that are known to ravage the South Pacific at some times of year.  The island is known for its beautiful beaches and natural surroundings and is home to several resorts which attract visitors from the Philippines, Europe, and Asia.

The people of Bohol are thought to be descendants of the area's native people, the Pintados, meaning tattooed ones, and for the most part still speak their own language, Boholano.  They are considered to be the last of their kind in the Philippines.  Today Bohol's residents are largely Roman Catholic and make their living in the tourism industry, the island's main source of income.  The fourth president of the Philippines, Carlos Garcia, was from Bohol.
