Since Kuwait City lies close to the water, there are many different types of water sports that both locals as well as visitors enjoy. Some of those activities are boating, diving, and fishing.

There are reefs that lie off the shores of Kuwait which are home to all sorts of marine life. Many people like to scuba dive in the waters, despite the fact that there has been some pollution in the area due to the Iraqi army setting fires to oil wells in Kuwait during the Gulf War, which resulted in oil spills in the waters.

Fishing is a popular sport in the water, and some of the most popular types to be caught are mackerel, tuna, snapper, catfish, and shark. Fishing can be accomplished either off of the deck of a boat, by staying on shore and releasing a line into the water while sitting on a pier, or by using a fishing net.
