The majority of people who are native to Kuwait have very deep religious beliefs. They are interested in maintaining their customs and culture, and many are very traditional when it comes to the clothing that they wear.

Men: The most popular form of attire for Kuwaiti men is a floor length robe. It is put on the body by slipping it over the head. This type of robe, which is officially called a “dishdasha” is very comfortably worn and is perfect for the extreme heat that Kuwait City experiences during the summer months. This type of robe has been worn by the men in Kuwait for several centuries. Men also usually wear a headdress. The headdress can be worn in many different ways – all depending on the current weather, the need to dress up or dress down, or the time of day. The men also usually wear leather sandals on their feet.

Women: The women in Kuwait have the option of wearing “regular” Western attire or they can wear more traditional clothing. While at home, the women usually wear comfortable clothing, but for special occasions they sometimes wear more traditional dresses called “thobs.” While in public, many women wear cloak over their clothes and some wear a veil.
