800 YEARS OF LOVE-WHIRLING DERVISHES CEREMONY&SUFI MUSIC CONCERT
The tradition of dervishes is not just a very famous dance but it is also a very important element of Turkish culture. Since 13.th century mystic, poet and philisopher Mevlana C. Rumi established a new way of art and thought, Dervishes of Turkey have enriched the music, literature, dance and belief of Ottoman geography without the discrimination of race, religion or nation. That is why to see dervishes is not just to experience a performance or concert, it is also an introduction to discover the peaceful and rich philisophy of Rumi and his followers which has also been marked on the list of Intengible World Heritage of UNESCO.
This one-hour programme presents you the ceremony in a nice atmosphere at Dervish Dede Efendi House in city center, Ahirkapi street, no 17. The programme starts with an introduction which is mainly talking about Rumi, the master of dervishes and a slayt with poems. Experienced and skillful musicians play the best semples of Sufi Music and the dervishes do 4-salam ceremony, giving life to 800 years tradition on the stage with their determination and faith for being a lifelong follower of Mevlevi tradition. At the end, it is possible to talk to the musicians and dervishes in case of questions.
