New York City is extremely diverse. Diverse in Culture, Restaurants, Bars, Sights and Sounds. So it is no surprise that this diversity extends to accommodations. In New York You have extremely expensive accommodations to budget accommodations. Many travelers say that accommodations in New York City cost more than many other places.

But, if one was to do some research they would find those hidden budget gems of accommodations.

These places offers budget accommodations with the simple requirements of safety, good service and least to say “non bank breaking rates.” .The are Bed and Breakfasts  or Guest homes that are owned by families and couples. Many units are accommodations that have private bathrooms and kitchens. 

The reason why many of these places get constant good reviews with little or few problems is because of its person-ability. At many of these places the owner/s check you in and make you feel comfortable. Problems and issues that arise at these accommodations can be addressed within a timely fashion. This is because most of the time it does not have long lines of communications.

Unless you are planning a trip at least 1 to 2 months in advance; do not expect to get accommodations on a today for tomorrow time line basis. This is due to the fact these places are usually the first to be booked. Most of these places do not have over 10 rooms. So they are booked fast and often far in advance. Deposits and cancellation fees are heavy, due the fact of their demand. But, do not hesitate to make a short notice contact because cancellations and openings are not unheard of especially in the winter season.

Many of these accommodations offer larger rooms than some hotels. Many can hold more individuals comfortably than a hotel.

Keep in mind that location is not as it seems. For example staying around 122nd street in Manhattan allows for a short ride by subway to midtown Manhattan. There is a misconception that Times Square is the center of Manhattan. There is no central part of Manhattan. All sights are all over the city. In fact one might recommend staying away from Times Square. Times Square is not on expensive, but it is tourist geared. You will not get the real feel of New York in Times Square.

Let’s face it;  once you are out and about you only go back to your hotel at the end of the evening . Especially for younger folks who do not have family obligations. The only request should be; close transport. Anywhere in New York is easily reachable/accessible the majority of the time by the public transport system.

The list below is limited to bed and breakfasts and Guesthouses. As with any establishment there is a chance that problems will arise, but that is with life. It is difficult to find accommodations in New York where there will not be some degree of bad reviews. You cannot please everyone. A few blocks from 2nd and 3rd avenues with restaurants as far as eyes can see. Park Avenue known for its wealthy stature, Madison Avenue known for boutique and designer shopping and Central Park the museum mile.
