If you're a breakfast connoisseur, it's worth the $8 cab to get out of the City. Brisbane's best breakfasts are in the inner city suburbs of New Farm (North), West End (South), and Paddington (West).
New Farm
Cirque - Brunswick Street - widely known as the best breakfast in Brisbane, Cirque is a 30 seat, two level local cafe, patronised by the well heeled but casual New Farm locals. Decorated in a basic style, with a large wallpaper feature wall. During the week it's busy all day, but you'll always get a table. Be prepared to queue on the weekend, however the efficient management of the queue makes this almost fun. Downstairs the tables for two are lined up against a banquette, upstairs there are five or six large communal tables seating 4 - 10. Best dishes are the Chow Down, Vege Chow Down, and if you're bored with the usual bacon, eggs etc, the corn cakes are to die for. Very good fresh juices and smoothies. Excellent coffee. Friendly staff. Prices from $6 - $15.
Paddington
Sassafras - Latrobe Terrace - very relaxed cafe housed in an original 'Queenslander' style wooden house. Old school interior, decorated with pieces from the owner's previous career as a bookmaker, mismatched furniture, and a huge courtyard out the back. Customers run the whole range from grungy students, to mother's groups with babies, to ladies who lunch. Lengthy menu, of which the hotcakes are amongst the best. On weekdays you could find a spot, sit with a book and pretty much stay all day if you liked. Weekends get very busy. Service can be a little mixed, but they usually get there in the end. Prices from $6-$12.
