"Ugg" is a generic name for a sheepskin boot.

To discern whether you are buying an Australian article please note that all genuine Australian Ugg boots carry the "Australian Made" green triangle kangaroo logo/trademark which is licensed exclusively to Australian made products. The UGG® Australia brand sounds local but is in fact an American company which makes its boots in China. 

Another consideration is whether you are purchasing genuine sheepskin or a synthetic product. Fake sheepskin will have a knitted backing. Less expensive synthetic ugg boots will be available at markets - such as Paddys in the Haymarket/Chinatown area.  Please check whether they are sheepskin or synthetic prior to purchasing.
