Porto Cervo is a beautiful location all year round in terms of the weather, but it is a location which is only active during the peak traveling months of summer.   Porto Cervo is not just a location which has an active tourist life but rather is a destination created almost entirely to serve the influx of luxury tourists for which it is known.   (For more information about these, see http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g19... and http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g19... .)   Because of this, it is a town which is practically deserted outside of the major tourist season, with many of the resorts closing entirely.

 

This is unfortunate because temperatures in the area are moderate throughout the year, making it an excellent location to visit during the winter, when the rest of the world is cold but the beaches of Porto Cervo are pleasant though the sea temperature will be cold. Travelers who do not mind the lack of activity in the area may find that they enjoy traveling to the area at this time for reflection and solitude.   However, if you find it depressing to wander around a town which has all its shop windows covered with paper and to look at empty berths in a marina, you should avoid Porto Cervo from October to early June.
