The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency and is NOT part of the United Kingdom. As such, it has its own immigration rules. In particular, most non-Manx people need a Work Permit to take up employment (including self-employment) on the Isle of Man - this includes people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. For people from outside the European Economic Area, there is now a points based system for immigration.
