This is a tiny little village situated on the north side of the island but a great place to stop if you are taking the north coastal road from east to west or you have hired a car and you have just completed the Ponta de Sao Lourenco walk.

From  Ponta de Sao Lourenco it is a 20 min drive so maybe 30 mins from Funchal.

Stop here for a coffee and some cake after your Ponta de Sao Lourenco walk or if you are on your way west.   It iswas wonderfuly to sit by the sea watching the waves rolling in and the cliffs you had been walking near earlier on.

Park your car in the free main car park then you can either walk into the centre following the sign for the outfdoor swimming pool or take the road on foot that goes behind the hill with the old stone building on it.  Do not drive down this road as it comes to a dead end at the harbour.

The road takes you around the sea edge where the waves were coming over the side and made for some great pics before you walk into the centre where the outdoor pool is.

The outdoor pool was closed but would be great fun to swim when it does open as it is right next to the sea.  There are two cafes situated on this side of the town with the views accross to the cliffs.
