Casa da India (49 rua do Loreto). Located in the bairro Alto. Not an Indian restaurant but a great Portuguese one. Expect to pay around 6 or 7 Euros. The grilled chicken (frango assado) is not to be missed. Always busy so don't be afraid to come in, sit at the bar or join other diners on cafeteria-like tables.
Tasco da Sé (62 rua Augusto Rosa). Small, beautiful, family-run restaurant in the Alfama. Expect to pay around 7 or 8 Euros. Try their signature dish, the cod (bacalhau). It is decadent.
Satelite (Largo da Graca). Located near largo da graca and easy to get by tram (just be careful with your belongings on this tram as unfortunately pickpockets seem to use the same service), this is a simple restaurant where the locals eat, meaning the food is honest, tasty and not too expensive. The service is friendly and some of the waiters speak english. Try the delicious fresh cheese started, the Carne-de-porco-a alentejana (porc with clams), loads of fish and fried alheira for instance...very nice
