All foreign visitors to The Netherlands are required to show a passport valid for at least 3 months after the last day of the intended visit.  The exception to this is certain nationals of the European Union who have a valid national ID card.  Also, anyone over the age of 14 are required to show a valid identification document to any police officer or law enforcement official upon request.

Tourist visas are not required for stays of up to 3 months, with many exceptions.
