Since Veneto has existed within the larger framework of Italian and Roman history, many of the historical period styles influenced the renowned architects of Veneto. A variation of Renaissance, Classical, and Gothic designs dominate metropolitan skylines. Etruscan and Renaissance buildings are generally more noticeable in smaller villages and towns.
A couple notable architects introduced their remarkable styles and exquisite craftsmanship within Veneto. Andrea Palladio and Mauro Cadussi were among the most highly commissioned architects during the 16th century. Wealthy European families were their primary muses, Cadossi also managed the churches of St. Michele and Santa Maria Formosa.

Mauro Cadussi integrated Classical design features into Renaissance architecture. Some historians credit him for fueling the transition from Gothic to Renaissance motifs in Venetian residential buildings. Like several of Venetian architects, the Carnaro family commissioned him to build their early Renaissance palaces. The Carnaro family was one the wealthiest families in Italy.
