The Valle Brembana cycleway (“Ciclovia della valle Brembana”) is a bike lane opened in 2007 which makes for a wonderful day out.
It is 24 km long (mostly traffic-free) and runs along the bed of a former railway from Zogno, about 10 km NW of Bergamo, all the way up to the village of Piazza Brembana. The relatively low height gain (about 220 meters total) implies that the going is not too tough, so that even children and relatively unfit adults can enjoy it. The cycleway is mostly paved (except for a short section after the former San Pellegrino train station), and well signposted. There are several tunnels, (the lights turn on automatically when you enter the tunnel).
Bicycles are available for rent at a bike store in the village of Zogno -- http://www.salvibikestore.com
To reach Zogno, take the ‘B’ bus from Bergamo: http://www.bergamotrasporti.it/upload.... Sevice is frequent, and the ride takes just 30 minutes.
