You can now get tickets to the tour which takes you to the underground and 3rd level, both closed to the public. It is a wonderful experience, under 10 Euro (+ regular ticket). The phone reservation will get you to the reservation counter inside of the Colosseo with no line at all, just tell the security person you have areservation tickets to pickup. At this counter, you can buy regular combo ticket mentioned above which are required to enter Colosseo.

All tour companies recommend buying tickets in advance, as there is always a long line, and the wait can be as long as three to four hours
