Taxi to the City

There is now a standard 40 Euro charge by taxi from the Fiumicino airport into the city center.

Train to the City

The train is another option if you are trying to save money. The Leonardo Express operates from Fiumicino Airport to Termini Station in the center of Rome. Journey time is 35 minutes. (The express refers to it being a non-stopping service rather than a high speed journey.)  The ticket costs 14 euros. Be sure that you validate your ticket before getting on a train - the machines are at the entrance to the individual platforms.

From the airport trains operate from 6:37am until 23:37. From Termini Station they operate from 5:52 until 22:52.

The train station in Rome is huge.  There are schedules posted in the station but it is wise to confirm the train and destination before you actually get on.  There aren’t a bunch of employees around to help so this can be a bit nervewracking.

It's quite a long walk from the front of the station to the platforms the services leave from (10 minutes). A tip is to go down a level where there are moving walkways in both directions.

TIP: If you are travelling to other destinations from Rome by train it's a wise move to buy the tickets in advance and secure a seat as there are quite long queues at most of the Rome counters during the day.
