Many of the festivals that take place in Las Palmas include parades in which the participants dress up in colorful costumes. Some of the festivals occur to honor a very significant holiday or historical event – and can last up to three weeks long!

Events and festivals in Las Palmas occur very frequently and any tourist planning to visit the island for at least one full week is almost guaranteed to find a festival to attend. There are several festivals which are very well known, and others that are smaller – but just as fun to attend.
A few examples of the large ones are:- In February there is a “Festival de Opera,” which is a celebration of opera.
- In June, the residents of Las Palmas celebrate “ San Juan ” day. This consists of a festival that celebrates the foundation of the city and includes all sorts of entertainment and events.

In October, there is a festival called “Romeria de Nuestra Señora de la Luz (Pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of the Light).” The festival includes a feast and a parade of decorated boats.
