Much of the natural beauty of Fuerteventura lies off the main automobile roads. There are many companies offering off-road treks to show tourists the lesser-known attractions of the island. You can travel by bicycle, quad, motorbike or horseback, and view the island from a different aspect only accessible this way. Depending on the tour, sights may include curiosities such as a camel farm or the quickly disappearing shipwreck of the SS American Star at Ajuy.
Fuerteventura has 2 sister islands which you may like to visit- Lanazarote and Isla de Lobos. Both can be easily reached by the daily ferries departing from Corralejo harbour. The 2 different ferry companies operate to Lanzarote, and depart from Corralejo harbour, docking at Playa Blanca. Journey time is between 15 minutes using the fast catamaran operated by Fred Olsen and 35 minutes using the traditional ferry operated by Naviera Armas
There are 3 smaller ferries operated by Grupo Lobos to Isla de Lobos, including the Majorero which is a glass-bottom boat. The journery takes about 20 minutes, with regular ferries throughout the day . A few hours should be enough to explore Los Lobos, but make sure to leave time for the lighthouse, which offers an excellent view of the island and neighbouring Lanzarote. Take sun shading, food and water as there are NO FACILITIES or shade!
