On Friday February 1, 2008, a fire destroyed the second floor of the Deyrolle "cabinet of curiosities" at the rue du Bac. The collections of insects and butterflies went up in flames, as well as part of the collection of other animals. The owner of Deyrolle, Louis Albert de Broglie, is calling for donations to reconstruct the Deyrolle Museum. It is expected that the shop will re-open in September 2008.
