Southampton’s weather is consistent, relatively rainy, and hardly ever extreme.

Average temperatures rarely dip below forty degrees, even in December and January—on the other hand, summer heat only exceeds seventy degrees a few times in July and August.  Precipitation swaggers between 1.5 and 3.5 inches per month.

Given this relatively unvarying weather, the only way in which climate should influence your itinerary is as an escape from brutal summer temps.

As for events, most go year-round in Southampton and the Hampshire province that contains it.  This year, until September, the Sea City Festival will be celebrating the historic connection the port town has had with the Channel and the Atlantic, from the Mayflower to the Titanic to past, present, and future nautical economics and naval protection.

Other events that attract visitors include the summer Garden Festival of intricate flora and gardening and Euroblade, an autumnal event dedicated to skaters and cyclists of greater Northern Europe.

And at the end of every month, the Southampton Artists’ Market has a Sunday showing of original talent for viewing and purchase.
