Brighton artist Zorian Matthews is based at his seafront studio/gallery, in what is known as the Artists Quarter. The gallery opens out directly on to the beach with great views of the sea, especially in the winter when the beaches are quiet and the waters rough! Zorian's paintings are very detailed, with almost a photorealistic quality, the colours are saturated and vivid, and certain elements of the images are exaggerated to highlight the mood and atmosphere of the work. The paintings are mainly landscapes, with dramatic horizons of towering mountains, clouds drifting high above and reflected in tranquil lakes of still waters below. Paintings of turbulent seas with stormy skies sit next to art portraying night skies of the moon, stars and cosmos. Some take on a dream-like quality, painted from imagination but still retaining great attention to detail. Local scenes of Brighton and iconic views of beach huts along the promenade and fishing boats on the beach are included in the collection. Zorian Artworks Gallery is open all year round and visitors welcome to browse. Zorian also accepts commissions for private work and is happy to give free advice to anyone wanting to discuss their ideas and requirements.
