This is a trip that takes you by bus and then by specially designed "Ice Explorer" vehicle out onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier, one of the glaciers that flow from the high and relatively inaccessible Columbia Icefield itself. You will then have an opportunity to walk around on a small safe area of the glacier.

This is one of the easiest of the possible ways to stand on a glacier that may not be here in the future due to melting. Guides are very informative about the geology and history of the glacier.
Other ways to experience the glacier include a short interpretive trail to the toe that you can take on your own, and the Athabasca Glacier Icewalks.
