Travelers can reach St. James by plane or by boat. Those traveling by plane may be frustrated at first to learn that there is no major international airport in St. James itself.  However, Barbados is not excessively large and travel from the airport to St. James is relatively easy, so this should not be considered to be a problem.

The major international airport of Barbados is the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport known locally simply as GAIA.  The official website for GAIA is www.gaia.com.bb.  The airport is served by many major international airlines including Air Canada, Air Jamaica, British Airways, Continental, Delta and First Choice.

Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can rent a car to reach their hotel destination in St. James.  Many hotels offers shuttle service from the airport to make travel more convenient for their guests; visitors should check with their hotel about this option before making firm travel plans.

Travelers often reach the area by boat, usually via cruise ship.  Many cruise ships go to the capital city of Bridgetown and travelers then proceed from there to their St. James hotel destination.

Travelers should not be discouraged by the fact that it is difficult to get directly in to St. James.  This tourist destination welcomes travelers and does everything possible to increase the convenience.  Plus, the sights to be seen in Barbados on the way to St. James are worth the time it takes to get there.
