Central Kalahari Game Reserve overview

The world's second largest game reserve, the 20,000-plus square mile Central Kalahari is bigger than Denmark or Switzerland. Teeming with wildlife, the park's terrain ranges from sand dunes in the north to bushy plains in the middle to more heavily wooded areas in the south. Home to the people known widely as Bushmen (but more accurately called Basarwa or San) for thousands of years, the reserve was actually opened in 1961 to protect them, but forced migration has left only about 250 here.
