moreDelaware's Dewey Beach is a spectacular sandbar community - on one side is Rehoboth bay, and on the other side there are the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Dewey Beach itself is a small town of less than 400 people, but it has become a popular tourist destination for anyone interested in watersports and beach holidays, and is the perfect spot for a relaxing family holiday. Look for deals on rented holiday apartments to save money and join this small coastal community in an authentic home rather than a bland hotel room.
As the name would suggest, Dewey Beach's principal attraction is of course the beach itself. During holiday periods it can be a real student party hotspot, so if you're hoping for a quiet family holiday, it might be best to check that your trip isn't going to coincide with spring break - it is much quieter in the fall season. There are all manner of watersports facilities on Dewey Beach, from windsurfing to skimboarding. It's also a popular haunt of metal detector enthusiasts, so you can always comb the beach searching for buried treasure. Away from the beach, Coastal Highway, the town's main street, is full of bars, restaurants and rock clubs, so the nightlife is always lively and varied. And if the attractions of the beach do eventually fade, it is well worth taking a day or to out of your visit to explore the wider State of Delaware.
