Went to the DR in 98 on a buddy pass a friend gave me.When I got to SDQ just as i was clearing customs a guide offered me ride to a hotel in BocaChicaI did'nt have a hotel reservation and this is where my problems started. See when you come in the DR you are required to file a form stating your buisiness and where you will be living while in the country, I was wondering why the customs guard had singnaled this guide ? I was told later by honest dominicans this is a scam.The guides not only get a tip from you but also a kickback from the hotel and Hotel Milanel is part of the hustle, Although the hotel as a singh on the highway advertising rooms for 20usd,(I arrived after dark) by the time the owner charged me a reasonable fee for paying with canadian cash, I had paid 45usd for a room with cockroaches the sise an egg. The house keeping was terrible, there was earthworms cumming out of the shower drain and I could feel the springs in a to old matress, there are other things but basically Hotel Milanell is to be avoided yes they do accept guest in your room but so does Hotel Europa and a bunch of others
