Top-line: Incredible value; close to Cape Town; semi-private given that it does not advertise. Better service experience than Aquila.
We are on our honeymoon in Cape Town and were looking for a day-trip safari before heading to Kruger. We happened upon Buffelsfontein online via Google. Our concierge at the Westin had not heard of it, but we booked anyways.
Value: We paid 1300 ZAR (next closest option was 2100 for Aquila). For 1300 ZAR we got a private transfer from the Westin to Buffelsfontein, a 3 hour game drive, breakfast and lunch.
Service: The reserve is family-owned (father and son). Staff were extremely pleasant, not pushy for tips, and knowledgeable.
Quality: This is NOT Kruger Park, but we didn't expect it to be. It was a ~1800 hectare game reserve with wild giraffes, wildebeasts, springbok, zebras, and a few smaller game. It also had cheetah and lion enclosures. A nice 3-star experience (not flashy, but clean and nice). No big tour groups, quiet, and relaxing.
