“Little-known gem; great 3-star attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Top-line: Incredible value; close to Cape Town; semi-private given that it does not advertise. Better service experience than Aquila.

We are on our honeymoon in Cape Town and were looking for a day-trip safari before heading to Kruger. We happened upon Buffelsfontein online via Google. Our concierge at the Westin had not heard of it, but we booked anyways.

Value: We paid 1300 ZAR (next closest option was 2100 for Aquila). For 1300 ZAR we got a private transfer from the Westin to Buffelsfontein, a 3 hour game drive, breakfast and lunch.

Service: The reserve is family-owned (father and son). Staff were extremely pleasant, not pushy for tips, and knowledgeable.

Quality: This is NOT Kruger Park, but we didn't expect it to be. It was a ~1800 hectare game reserve with wild giraffes, wildebeasts, springbok, zebras, and a few smaller game. It also had cheetah and lion enclosures. A nice 3-star experience (not flashy, but clean and nice). No big tour groups, quiet, and relaxing.

“Awsome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We stayed at the self catering cottage, which is simple but comfortable. The viewing of game was amazing, there was such abundance. The best is to see the bucks, zebras and ostriches roaming at really close distance at night - pure magic!

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful: things as simple as introducing themselves and shaking hands shows true gentleman's manners.

Will definitely stay there again, and highly recommend that you do too!!!

“Fantastic”

We absolutely loved Bufflesfontein! The luxury cottages are amazing, so well done - huge places with leather sofas, huge beds, welcome pack which includes local wine. Excellent views over the natural spring/watering hole, wildlife wandering around, fab food. We booked in as all inclusive so we got 3 meals a day and a game drive and it really was great value. Also if you are lucky you will meet Daniel, who we found absolutely fascinating, his knowledge of wildlife and his tracking skills are second to none, we were sad to leave.

They also have an amazing building which they use for parties and weddings, and I can't imagine anything better - if I lived in SA thats where I would go!
