We stayed in Mukarnas for the first week of September and had an absoultely fantastic time. The hotel was great. Large pool, big waterslides for our older son (7 yrs old) and a great kids pool with mini water slides for our 2 year old. We stayed in a 'junior suite'. Don't be misled by the title, it is just a very big room, but it comfortably accommodated the four of us. Everywhere is very clean and well kept. There is a good gym and spa, with Hamam, which you can either use yourself or book a proper Turkish massage. The hotel grounds are green and well kept and there is an outside auditorium with a different show every night. In addition to the pools there are other things for the children. A relaxed and fun kids club, and a mini disco every evening which our kids really looked forward to (and they are both boys!). The issues some people have talked about with other guests is an interesting one. There were some people in the hotel that conformed to different social standards, but it depends on your attitude. 'Rude' and 'ignorant' people were around, but few and far between. If you are able to smile and shrug it off then you will find that 99% of people in the hotel are no problem at all. If you let it get to you then it could detract from your holiday a little. I would say I experienced bad behaviour a couple of times during the week, both times in the buffet restaurant, but what is the point of letting it spoil an otherwise perfect holiday? On the whole the food was very good, and there is pretty much always something available to eat or drink, no matter the time of day. The popcorn machine by the side of the stage for the evening shows was the sort of really nice touch that lifts your experience. The hotel also has direct access to the 'beach'.
Now, there are a couple of small downsides to this hotel. Firstly the 'beach'. It is very pebbly and the sea becomes very deep very quickly. If you are looking for a holiday where younger kids can dig in the sand and splash in the sea then this is not the place (we would have loved to be able to do this, but the fantastic pools and slides meant we didn't really worry about it). Secondly the buffet restaurant. It did get really busy in the evening, and it could be a bit of a struggle to find a table. Breakfast was never a problem, and there are alternative choices from the main restaurant for lunch. Also, the food servery area was slightly remote from the seating area which meant a bit of walking. With older kids (or no kids) this would not be a problem at all. With young kids it was a little frustrating but, again, not really enough for me to lower my overall rating from 5 out of 5. Finally, you do need to be aware that the transfer time from Antalya Airport is in the region of 2-hours.
To finish on a high, the food was pretty good, very varied, and certainly very plentiful. If you accept it for what it is (a large buffet service), then it is hard to fault. They do also have a la carte restaurants. However, we did not use these as the buffet was still easier with the kids, despite the drawback mentioned above.
All in all excellent. All the family had a brilliant time.
Room Tip: The junior suites are just big rooms, but ample for younger family of four. They do have multi-room...
