“Well its certainly different!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Booked this hotel as it was the only one in the area that offered All inclusive but didn't expect to be the only people in the hotel to be AI. For the first 3 days we were the only 2 people in the hotel on an All Inclusive basis ( another English couple then arrived and when we left, they were the only ones AI) The hotel was nearly all Spanish holiday makers - no problem with that except they never seem to drink in the bar so we always had to go and find a barman - it got to the stage where as we approached the bar whoever was on Reception would pick up the phone and ring for bar staff - they poured us a drink each and then they were gone! Good job we have the British sense of humour. As for the hotel, it was fine - fairly basic, but clean. Only real complaint was the bed & pillows - bed was very lumpy and those were not pillows - mine was about 2inches thick and could only be used folded in half - awful! Hotel is in a very quiet residential area, close to the sea. The sea is perfect - shallow and very warm, the beach only a few minutes walk and no crowds. For a quiet, relaxing week this was fine but they would need to change their beds and hire more staff before I would go back.

“Right place for a good vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

A very nice place for couples and family holiday in Spain. Close to Alicanta, Good location not far from the beach in quiet surroundings. Also perfect point for trips to Murcia and Cartagena.
Splendid, excellent food so if you take HP it will be surprising to you a lot.

Room Tip: Take a yard/swimming pool side

Stayed at the Stella Maris for a week from July 1st. Having read so many bad reviews I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. Our room was a fairly good size, had a lovely little balcony with views over the salt flats and was perfectly clean. Yes the hotel could do with a bit of renovation...outdated decor and cracks in the bathroom sinks etc but for the price we paid it was great. The hotel also had a good sized pool area which was generally very quiet during lunch times and onwards leaving plenty of sunbeds free. Staff spoke basic English if that so dont go expecting advice/directions, however they tried to be as helpful as possible. 2 minutes walk from beach and a selection of cafes, 5 minutes from local supermarket. A good 15 minute walk to the town centre but with the weather as amazing as it was this wasn't a problem in the slightest. Plenty of restaurants and bars in Santa pola, would definitely recommend la sal for food and there's a great little bar called the biscuter...gorgeous cocktails for 5 euros and good music. Overall we had a lovely holiday and would probably stay again purely for the value of the hotel. Would not recommend to those looking for something touristy with English attractions, Santa Pola is a very Spanish resort but for those looking for a taste of different culture and a relaxing holiday then this is the place.

“Don't go in the winter'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

Having lived in Spain for over 14 years we were quite prepared for the fact that the food was only luke-warm [or in some instances, cold] and also the fact that, due to the economic situation, there were only a few people staying in the hotel [about 25 - 30 over the weekend] what we were not prepared for - and have never found in any other hotel in Spain - was the complete lack of atmosphere in this hotel. Of the four nights we stayed, we were the only ones in the lounge on three of them. On two occassions we asked staff if some music could be played to releive the feeling that one was on the 'Marie Celeste' but both times were told there was none available.
If the lounge had been made morfe welcoming other guests who looked in, and quicjkly left, may have been tempted to stay. The brochure did advertise entertainment - but didn't say when!!!
As my husband is in his 80's we are happier sitting together playing 'Scrabble' than going out at night. But on two occassions went up to our room as it was less daunting than sitting in the empty lounge.

“Not a 3 star!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

Service: poor, no help with luggage, main entrance to the complex is locked with a gate so you must take everything yourself. No trolleys to take suitcases upstairs. On the other hand staff at reception were helpful despite lack of knowledge of languages. Breakfast is an all for all affair: very few staff about, coffee not fresh, watery milk to drink...
Room: spacious, cool, air condition ok, clean but simple.
Location: by the main road but no noise heard, far away from shops and amenities, 15' walk to beach, good children entertaintment, close to a small but popular amusement park.
Best: good intentions from staff
Worst: food, price, overrated, distance to things
