We travelled with First Choice for the new year break. Upon arrival the hotel was as expected. Basic but clean. We travelled with our 11 year old daughter and I hadn't bothered to book a family room as the twin rooms were meant to be able to take 3 people. I would recommend anybody travelling as a 3 to book a family room as the room would not have been big enough to accommodate us all week. After the 1st night we upgraded to a family room which gave us the space we needed!! The staff in the hotel were all very helpful and friendly throughout the stay. The leather chairs in the bar area were slightly TOO comfortable!!! Food was good, every meal time you had a choice of salad bar, a fish dish, meat dish and veg. There is also a seperate kids section with chips and something else. The waiting staff upstairs were brill. With regards to First Choice our holiday would not have been the same without them!! Massive thanks have to go to Craig, angel anneka, charley Christmas, Sarah clause and boodolph!! The kids club and kids entertainers made sure my daughters holiday was her best ever, in her words even better than Florida! And Craig was always on hand to help out with anything. The first choice tasters were good and I especially enjoyed the ice hotel! Well worth visiting! As far as other trips go there are far cheaper ones than booking through first choice. We booked our husky trekking through reception at the hotel at Rami's Huskies. Well recommended and a fraction of the cost!! There is also an Inghams rep who visits the hotel who you can book through and they are also much cheaper. Just across the road there is also a line of trip operators so well worth a look in to compare prices and haggle. There is also a supermarket down the road which is worth visiting for drinks and biscuits for the room! This is the holiday that will be what you make it but it was our best holiday to date! Oh and with regards to skiing again reception can sort all that for you. They booked ski school for us.

We stayed for a 7 night New Year break with our two children aged 10 and 8 the holiday was excellent we thought Lapland was magical and the kids said it was "better than Florida". The First Choice Reps were brilliant and really made our holiday special - thanks to Christmassy Craig, Boodolph, Sarah Clause, Angel Anneka and Charlie Christmas you were all fantastic even though our plane developed a fault and we were delayed a day - they were all keen to return home to their families too they remained professional and handled complaints from disgruntled customers and reassured everyone well done guys! Hotel was so relaxed and chilled the food was lovely - ok it's not A la carte but your in the Artic. The rooms were very warm and clean. We experienced every trip we could and some with first choice others independently we went skiing, huskies driving our own team, ice hotel, snowmobiling, Elf adventure, Father Christmas at Poros and lake dipping in dry suits v funny - everyone should experience this wonderful place, we met some great people and will always remember this magical holiday

We booked the package through First Choice one week prior to going, so had a very, very good deal, we stayed 5 night from 21st December - 26th December 2011. Hotel was fantastic, sauna in room, mini bar (expensive) for three of us the room was a little tight, but you only tend to sleep in their, tv some channels in english, great kids entertainment with the reps (first class), main hotel bar was expensive. Very clean, restaurant fantastic, choice of foods for every meal, only down side lunch and dinner only water was served with tea & coffee, no juice for the children. Very polite pleasant staff, gala dinner was superb. the overall rating of the hotel I would give a 3 star.

NOW EXCURSIONS - Very expensive if you book through First Choice or Thomson. Ice Hotel a mini bus runs from the hotel every Monday & Friday takes you to Ice Hotel and the fair cost 22 euros each there and back, and then 11 euros to get in, the excursion price was 109 euros each. Husky rides book direct with the Husky Farm and they come and collect you, I paid for the excursions which was 100 euro each and another couple at the hotel booked directly with the Husky farm and paid 65 euro for the two of them, and they were collected and dropped off at the hotel Santa's shop just 1/2 mile up the road did reindeer rides around his wood for 20euro each adult & 15 euro for a child, this was good. Snowmobiles, hire yourself and go off the tracks are all signposted and it is alot cheaper. Rovaniemi Day Trip cost 143 euro for one adult and was a total waste of money I have put a complaint in and I have asked for my money back, it was a big disappointment, it was not organised and very expensive for what you did.

Overall the holiday was fantastic apart from the expensive excursions, but we have done all of them and I am really pleased that we can now tick this off our list, but I suggest leave it to the last minute, for a family of three I saved £800.00 for a five night stay over christmas.

Just back from Snow Princess for 5 night stay via First Choice / Thomson over Christmas hols.
Location - perfect for Santa's House, local souvenir shops, places to book activities / excursions yourself, and near to Lake where Northern Lights were visible on Christmas Eve
Rooms - basic but clean, mezzanine steps to kids room would be a hazard for under 10's, hotel very warm throughout. Sauna in room worth having
Staff - In common with all of the Finnish people we met in Lapland hotel staff were very polite and helpful
Food - average buffet fare, expensive drinks unless you are happy with tea/coffee/water which are free. Very limited for veggies and often lukewarm but acceptable for a few days. Breakfast was the pick of the meals
Sleep quality - not the fault of the hotel but hyperactive kids crashing down the corridors at 1 am followed by their drunk and gobby parents is not ideal. Hotel guests 99% Brits so expect general rowdy behaviour with little regard for others

Trip in General - Avoid the First Choice /Thomson excursions (apart from the freebies) as you can book locally yourself for a fraction of the cost. It's an active holiday so plan accordingly. Fantastic place to spend Christmas
