This place is for someone who wants be in contact with the natural environment. Yes, you need a car to arrive there and it will be so pleasing and gratifying. I felt myself amazed!

The place has a wonderfull and relaxed atmosphere. So beautiful room! They dont serve food however they have a tasty and tipical breakfast.

There is a restaurant nearby but you will need a car to go, It is a good one.

The new manage is a lovely and very polite lady.

The place is so beatifull as the pictures shows!! It is definitely worth visiting..

Room tip: The shower was not working well, check it.

We were greated with a glass of wine and made to feel completely at home. My husband and I were the second guests after the hotel came into new management. The hosts, Lisa, Miles and Ray were lovely and went the extra mile to make our trip special. We stayed in a room on the second floor which had a specatular view. There was a minor issue with the water but it was fixed immediately. The new owners have exciting plans to include a restaurant which will make the place even better. We wish them all of the best and recommend paying them a visit.

you absolutely need a car, you need to bring your own food, and it is a hostel not a hotel by any stretch of the imagination. Also note that we are not high maintenance or fussy people.

We book this hotel as part of our honeymoon over Christmas break. I'll break it into areas:

Check in: Upon arrival, the cleaning lady was the only staff there, she checked us into the wrong room (not her fault), since no management was there we called Laura who argued with my husband that he was wrong and he checked his email to confirm she did promise us a certain room, so she said they would reduce the cost of the room.

Room: no toiletries existed, tiny old tv but was promoted as a 32" plasma, you need to wait 15 minutes for a trickle of warm water in the shower.

Pool: can fit 2-3 people comfortably

Pool bar: does not exist, there is only a bar if you bring your own beer or liquor.

Restaurant/food: it's a kitchen not a restaurant. Breakfast is bread, a couple kinds of fruit, and coffee. The closest restaurant/store is at least 5 km away down an extremely steep hill.

Owner/management: spends more time at the beach than the hotel and isn't interested in the guests or running the hotel at all.

Customer Service: Miserable. We were so unhappy after night 1 that we asked the owner the next morning before he went to the beach if we could check out early. He said no problem, so we confirmed " we were supposed to stay for 4 nights, but it is ok that we are going to be leaving 2 days earlier." He said no problem again. So we stayed night 2 and left the hotel the next morning. When we saw our credit card statement we were charged the full prices for the two nights we stayed. Laura (whom we never saw but called the first day) claimed that we only got a price break based on staying 4 nights, but it was because she messed up our rooms! The hotel has refused to respond to us and I've been nothing but reasonable. They owe us $70US.

Room tip: Choose a room at another hotel.

Where do I start? This was hands-down the worst hotel/motel experience we've ever had! The pictures of the hotel really draw you in but that is where the fun stops. The 'hotel' seems to be someone's home that is being billed as a boutique hotel (5 rooms total) and one night was more than enough.

Firstly, when we arrived there was no one staying in the hotel or 'manager' overseeing it. I had to locate anyone who could help by hiking up the mountain to some other land project going on. Once we got to our room we discovered several things that we now dub the hotel 'Manga Grossa'.

1) Dead bug remnants under the bed and throughout the room
2) Alive insects including but not limited to Locusts, wasps, and carpenter ants (I'm not an entymologist)
3) Sheets and linens that had not been cleaned or changed out from the last visitors (we slept on the bath towels because those appeared to at least been laundered) and dirty toilet/shower area
4) Stains coming in from parts of the ceiling that apparently are leaks from the outside.
5) Cold running water from the outside shower. Don't forget to dodge the locusts while your freezing with soap in your eyes!

Those are just some of the highlights. When I later asked to have the room swept I was given a broom! That's right - I broomed my own room!

Had we been in a better position that evening, we would have found a different hotel. This was our last night in Costa Rica in an area we had just arrived in and basically had to 'camp out' for the evening. At $125 plus taxes I think this hotel is about $124 too expensive.

There was food available the next morning. The 'breakfast' in the dining area consisted some slices of white bread wrapped in cellophane (presumably to keep the locust swarm and giant grasshoppers from pooping in it) and some sliced fruit in small container and a nasty cloth coffee filter that we wouldn't go near. We drove into Jaco for breakfast instead.

In true form, there was no one around to check us out so I had to leave the keys on the desk and say Good Riddance!

The only positive thing I have to offer about this place is that the view is pretty. But I'm sure it's just a pretty at a campground somewhere else on that mountain so that really doesn't go very far for us..

If you want to get an overview of where you are, see Toucans in an adjacent tree, be close to Carara National Park and Lapas Skywalk, this is the place to stay in Tarcoles. Sited on a bluff overlooking the forest and the sea, this is a unique option to take in this little not yet overdeveloped piece of Costa Rican coast. The little hotel itself is a grand idea about 80 percent executed- but the staff is very accommodating and the views are superb. A little road work is in its final stages and all should be more bucolic once complete. It is a little drive to the restaurants along the coast, including the as yet unrated Restaurantetico- which was great for Ceviche and Patacones Especial.

Room tip: Get a second floor room with a balcony looking out of the sea (there are two of them)
