“a great man made atraction using natural resources, a must see nearby bogota”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

befor i went to Cathedral of salt of Zipaquira, i read on the internet. to be honest what you read is not compared to what you see when you get there. this place have nbeen ther for thousands of years and is great what you see human being has done with it.
he locals have made a living mining alt from it, but they also are catholic church followers, so they decided to bulit a church inside. they used the space left behind by the miners to build a christ viacrucis and the cathedral itself. is really amazing.

until you you dont see a movie the present in a theather downthere and you get out yout dont really figureout everything. take picturesa lot, downther ther is a small shop they sell a movie for about 10 dollars, buy it if you want they dont sell it outside. go if you are in bogota, dont miss it you will remember you read my post

make the miner tour and all atractions it will be like 3 hours and one hour each way from bogota depending on traffic

“A place both for religious and educational visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This is a very nice salt mine built as a cathedral. While walking through the Christ's way to crucifixion and resurrection, you will see what can be done with salt. However, it does not give a very good representation of how salt is really mined. To learn that, you should not miss a film at the end of the excursion. I would also suggest that you visit Nemocon, to get a complete picture of mountain, underground salt mining. The Salt Cahedral by itself may seem too artificial. A personal advice, if you are note rested in emeralds, by them near Gold Museum, the same things as in the cathedral are cheaper, sometimes significantly.

“Amazing, LED Lit Cathedral with Multiple Attractions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Sal Catedral is located an hour's drive or transmilenio ride north of Bogota past Chia. In autumn, 2011, the underground mine-turned-cathedral upgraded its lighting to LED, allowing for more vibrant colors for the stations of the cross and three naves. Tours are provided in Spanish and English and take about 2-3 hours. A 3-D movie and light show are also included with the entrance. For extra admission, you are allowed to mine some salt rocks as souvenirs. Active church service occurs every Sunday.

Advice: Leave Bogota between 8-9AM, tour the cathedral and park around the site, and grab lunch in central Zipaquira. The town's center is about a ten minute walk from the park and can be seen from there since you are on a hill. Take a lot of pictures of a more traditional Colombian town. Supposedly there is an ancient archeaological sight in town, but I'm not familiar with it.
