“Great Location , Great Guest House”

We went to chill out for a few days and that's exactly what myself and my partner Ron did.The location is fantastic {Ron is recovering from knee operation so could not walk far.It is plain to see how much work has gone into the refurbishment, we had a tour of every room and would have been happy in any of them.Jill and Julie were lovely hosts and the breakfast was very good with a wide choice. We will certainly be going back and have recommended this place to family and friends.

“New owners, new style, great weekend!”

Stayed for the weekend at Talbot House and discovered a real gem of a place. We were some of the first guests to stay there after the place had been extensively refurbished by the new owners. We enjoyed our stay immensely, due in part to the pleasant company of Jill and Julie, a fabulous spread at breakfast and our quaint comfortable room overlooking the main street. We have booked again for a longer stay in the New Year - looking forward to it already.

“Lovely guest house now completely refurbished”

Stayed at the Talbot House for 2 nights. It has been completely refurbished to a very high standard. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and some nice touches to the rooms such as biscuits and wine glasses if you wish to bring your own wine which can be chilled for you. The full english breakfst was excellent made with local produce. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts Julie & Jill. We will be back later this year.

“noisy location, highly overpriced, very dated”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

Owner friendly enough but the room was straight out of the 70's. furniture and fittings missmatched and of poor quality. One memorable eyesore was the toilet cistern overflow pipe directed straight back into the pan, very strange. Window frame rotten and poor sound insulation allowed virtually all traffic noise from busy high street in and paired with very uncomfortable bed ment for a miserable nights sleep for me and my partner. Didnt stay for brekkie!

“Basic.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We recently stayed for a night at The Talbot. We were welcomed by the friendly owner, Stephen, who showed us to our rooms. I was surprised however that he hadn't mentioned, at the time of booking, that they were actually two flights of stairs up, on the top floor of the building. However, as I personally hadn't specifically asked about the location of the rooms I chose to overlook it. One room was small-adequate, the other extremely small, the décor very dated but, on the whole, both were okay except for the showers which had not been cleaned effectively. In one room there was no shower curtain. Also, on the landing area, we noticed electric sockets loose with exposed wires. The breakfast the following morning was good though it was clear that Stephen was struggling to cater for the nine people on his own. When we came to pay on our departure, he told us that neither credit or debit cards were accepted; again something that might have been mentioned either on the phone or at least on arrival to have given us chance to get cash. Overall, I'd say The Talbot was a little overpriced but it is very clear that the owner works extremely hard, and single handedly. An additional employee, for even just a couple of hours a day, would ensure a more effective breakfast service and help Stephen ensure the place was properly cleaned and allow a little more time to make the, what could be a beautiful building, a little more attractive and inviting. We chose not to stay the second night as planned.
