A tranquil location far from the mad chaos of city life, offering stunning views of Mt Merapi and rural life in Java. We stayed for 3 nights over the new year weekend and enjoyed very minute. As in previous reviews we found the hospitality of Yanti, Christophe and their staff to be perfect, never intrusive but always there if needed. Even with the language barrier we still managed to arrange trips, transport and local walks using pigeon French/English and badly drawn maps! QAfter a long hot New Years day sightseeing at Borobudur (a must see in my opinion) it was heaven to return to the cool calm of the Villa. Food in the French Bistro was good esp the meats.....my tip would be to ask for rice or potatoes instead of the daily french fries! Overall a special place to have stayed.
A gem of a place. We were 2 couples travelling together without children in early Dec. and stayed here for 4 nights. After the journey from Yogyakarta through busy streets and bustling towns, the hotel appeared as an oasis of calm nestled amidst bottle green rice paddies with views of the hills and volcano in the distance. The comfortable and super clean villas are done up in local style. We had the "VIP" villa which comes wth a dining area where we enjoyed breakfast with our friends each morning. Yanti and Christophe are charming and made every effort to make our stay comfortable and memorable, arranging airport transport, excursions to Borobudur, Prembanan temples, and Gunung Merapi (volcano), as well as massages at the hotel. The always smiling staff is eager to please. The restaurant menu is extensive. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend this place to friends.
Nothing is too much for Christophe and Yanti who own this lovely little hotel. They picked us up from our hotel in Yogyakarta and then 5 days later delivered us safely at the airport for our crack of dawn flight home. Christophe was able to organise drivers for day trips out, ranging from visits to Borobudur to walks in the local mountainous padi fields. The rooms are well presented and clean, all facing the swimming pool. On the one morning when the sunrise was particularly beautiful, Christophe got up extra early to wake us up, we were rewarded with stunning views of the volcanoes and a few cattle walking across the rice padis which made for great photos!
After a long day sightseeing we were always welcomed with a fresh fruit juice, at meals in their restaurant we were always given complimentary 'extra' bites to eat. Little things like this made us feel very welcome.
Breakfasts were always good and we were never limited to anything, as a family of 5 we merrily ate our way through at least 15 deliciously fresh local eggs and dozens of slices of toast every day. When we left, we were awarded with a huge bunch of bananas that were growing at the back of the hotel and a packet of sweets for each of the children. Hugs all round and a list of contacts from Christophe for places to visit on another holiday.
The children loved the freedom and intimacy of the hotel, the restaurant served great homecooked food and we always felt happy to be returning after a hard day's sightseeing.
Overall, excellent value for money and the friendliness of the owners made the stay all the more special.
We were not bothered by mosquitoes, Christophe gave us several mozzie plugs during our stay and we did not feel too hot. However the Muezzines calling from the many mosques was extremely loud on the first night, a pair of earplugs from Christophe soon sorted this out and we slept pretty peacefully thereafter, needless to say that the children never once stirred!
If you are looking for a warm and welcoming place to stay within easy reach of the main sights then Villa Sumbing is a great choice.
We stayed for 4 nights with a 4 year old child and have highly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful place. The service is outstanding and staff go out of their way to make sure that your stay will be a memorable one. Both owner and staff have great eye for detail and we were always welcomed back from our day trips with a serve of springrolls or fried banana - complementary. The menu is a predominantly western/international menu with some indonesian dishes. The scenery is beautiful, the owners will suggest many activities / trips and have even organised a rental car for us (self drive). Optionally, they can organise a personal driver for you as well, if desired. If you prefer a stay in a tranquil setting then don't hesitate and treat yourself to Villa Sumbing Indah.
