“If you don't want a good nights sleep-stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

I can confirm that my friends and I had a terrible nights sleep, on what should have been a pleasurable girlie weekend of Christmas shopping. We were on the ground floor and it sounded like a bowling alley above us for most of the night.

During breakfast in the cold dining room the air became considerably blue. This time not from the chill but from a drunken resident, who actually turned up by taxi for breakfast and had been out all night.

There is no-one to contact for help during the night and my friends and I felt quite vulnerable. We had saved up and planned this weekend away for a long time. It certainly was not cheap and we expected a better service and overnight stay than this.

I definitely would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

“The Worst Experience of My Life!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

Stayed with two friends while on a shopping trip to nearby Clarks Village, we shared a room on the ground floor. We were kept awake all night due to the noisiest residents I have ever heard, the racket went on all night long. We tried reporting it to reception at 0400hrs but there is no-one there at night and we certainly did not feel safe to venture from our room to investigate it ourselves. We went exhausted to breakfast, whilst there a very drunken guest arrived, his language and behaviour was awful. Despite this nothing was said to him and he was served breakfast while he continued his foul mouthed tirrade and ranting. We had already complained about the noise that had prevented any of us getting any sleep, we then complained about his language and behaviour. To say the staff were dismissive of our complaints would be an understatement, it was "oh well we can't be responsible for the guests". Whilst I appreciate this, we should never have been subjected to such dreadful behaviour, somebody should have insisted he leave the room instead we felt forced to retreat back to our room. As we were checking out the owner came along who's only comment was that he hoped it wouldn't stop us from visiting again. Despite our serious complaints, we were charged the full amount (and it's not cheap) for no sleep and having to cut breakfast short, It turns out they regularly have groups of young men staying who are working locally. I will certainly never go back and had such a bad experience am considering further action, surerly when taking our money they have a duty of care to us? We had a great evening meal at the Bull next door and will stay there next time, the staff were very friendly and it's more reasonably priced.

Seen some of the previous adverse comments I think they either didn't visit or visited a different venue.
Room was very comfortable, breakfast excellent and staff very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recomend a stay.

“Thank Heavens we found this place”

Rarely have I stayed in a hotel with as much character & personality as this one. An amazing 500+ year old building, crammed with original features. Its huge open fireplace must be a big hit during the winter months. Reading previous reviews, I find it hard to believe that these people actually stayed at the same hotel as I did, or maybe they spent the entire time with their eyes closed.

The room in which I stayed was situated on the ground floor, incredibly spacious and well equipped, as well as being immaculately clean. I found there to be no problems with the heating or the fact that the windows did not open (a security feature I was subsequently advised)

I found the staff which I encountered to be polite & helpful, not only with regards to matters concerning the hotel, but also in relation to getting the most from my stay in the area.

We ate in their cosy restaurant every night, there was plenty of choice available spread between their a la carte menu and the specials board (which changed twice during our stay). The food which we ate was of a very high quality, no complaints in this area either.

All in all a most enjoyable visit, and would highly recommend it to anyone. I would also suggest that anyone reading previous comments, whilst taking them into consideration, also allow themselves to make their own judgments.

Neither Street, or the Mullions Hotel share anything in common with “Royston Vasey” I wish that it did.

“Is Street the real Royston Vesey?”

Well, this hotel is a mixed bag, as in bizzarre.

A group of us had been booked in to all the rooms for a night for a job we were doing. My wife and I were among the first to arrive, struck lucky and were allocated one of the ground floor posh bedrooms. Very comfortable they are, too. Lots of room, huge bathroom, great water pressure. No shelf in the bathroom for stuff but nowhere's perfect. Slightly surprised to note that there was the largest aircon unit I've ever seen poking out of the wall – and no radiators. Others arrived and were shown their rooms. All equally happy with them. Then we all trooped off for dinner with the client, coming back just before 11pm. That's when things became a bit strange.

You'd have thought that any hotel would welcome back with open arms more than 20 thirsty people ready for a nightcap or two after dinner. Not here. The bar was shut and wasn't going to be opened for anyone, even if all the guests, and I mean all, wanted to buy alcohol, soft drinks, mineral water, you name it. The staff would not be moved. After much pleading, one of them did pop into the kitchen and bring back my wife some powdered decaf, to allow us to make a coffee in our room. It tasted pretty yucky but it was at least warm and wet, which is more than anyone else got.

After a bit of chat we all ran out of steam and went to bed. The night was a cool early summer one, perfect for a good sleep. At 3am, we woke up. It was stiflingly hot. Got up to open a window. None would open. So that's what the aircon was for!

Next morning we all had to be up early. I trooped into the breakfast room at 7.45 to be greeted with, "You're too early! Breakfast starts at eight!" The next person was told, "Chef doesn't arrive until eight! You're early!” OK, we’d got the message. My wife wanted just fruit. If tinned grapefruit counts, her wish was granted, because there was nothing else on the fruit front. Another colleague arrived. He’d stayed here before and had brought an M&S fruit salad with him. I had scrambled eggs and bacon (post 8am, of course), which were fine. Then we all started talking again. Everyone had had a disturbed night’s sleep. All had been woken by the heat. All on the ground floor found their windows didn’t open and used their aircon. All on the first floor found they had to fling their windows open – and discovered that outside was distinctly chilly. Well, Street is close to Glastonbury. Perhaps the hotel is on a thermal ley line. Who knows?

A few minutes later, we all checked out and a last strange thing happened. The staff refused to bill us for pre-dinner drinks. I assume that the client picked up the tab but it could just be an old Mullions tradition.

Would I stay here again? I honestly have no idea. It’s certainly quiet, comfortable and clean. If I do, I’ll put the aircon on before I go to bed and bring a bottle of something chilled and white with me, along with fruit for breakfast, which I can eat before 8am.
