“Needs refurbing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Very friendly hotel. Staff good. It is in a time warp. Not a 3 star even by Greek standards. Our room had a soft bed, but that's all I can say. Bath was a large shower tray. Shower did not hang on the wall. Apparently none of the rooms had a shower attached to wall, as the receptionist tried to find one. I couldn't open the door onto balcony although my partner could. Just needed tarting up a lot

“A Perfect Week!”

We've just come back from a brilliant stay at The Galaxy Hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and air-conditioned with a good maid service. The hotel is in walking distance from Argostoli along a scenic route, but we hired a car which really is essential. However it is a very good base for exploring the island as everywhere is within equal driving distance.

The staff are the best part of the whole experience. Vangelis, his Father, and Anya are all brilliant and Vangelis and Anya know all there is to know about where to go and what to see and do and can recommend excellent places to eat. They are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. I agree totally with HappyCampersUK, they really do make you feel important and are genuinely interested in what you've been up to each day. They make each guest feel completely at home and like they are all important.

The bar by the pool is well stocked and served cold beer in glasses kept in a freezer, and a good selection of spirits, and soft drinks. I'd advise you to try the mojito, when I ordered it, Vangelis went and picked the lime from the tree and the mint from the bush so it was the freshest mojito i have ever had!

The hotel does a simple menu of burgers and salads during the day but the burgers were home made and delicious, and the greek salad was very fresh. Breakfast is a simple continental affair with cold meat, cheese, bread, pastries, fruit and yogurts.

I'd advise to go in september as it was brilliant sitting round the bar at night because it was quiet and we could sit around chatting to the owners and some of the other guests which was brilliant atmosphere, and a chance to make some good friends.

Kefalonia is the most beautiful island and this is a brilliant place to stay if you are on a budget. A perfect place to rest your head if you arent really going to spend any time in your room and are looking for peace, quiet and relaxation and a fantastic atmosphere.

“Great Time”

Hello me and my friend stayed at the Galaxy Hotel for a week in September and yes its not a four star but its clean and breakfast is good. If there is anything you want to know about the Island Anya who is on Reception knows everthing and will put you in the right direction and nothing is too much trouble. The family are just great and all very friendly and John the father is a real character and is up early in the mornings and is still there late at night to serve you a drink from the bar.

The hotel is only a 15 minute ride to the airport which cost 20 euros and to see the island you do need a car but if you just want to laze around by the pool which is quiet and get a taxi in the evening which is 6 euros this is the ideal place.

“Our best holiday to date !”

Where do we start?, On arrival we are greeted by warm and friendly staff, check in was a breeze. Due to our late arrival we sat beside the pool with drinks to soak up an excellent and laid back vibe.

After that, retired to our room which tbh was clean but basic with everything you needed including air con which was an absolute god send. Monday was spent kicking back by the pool while we waited for our hire car to be delivered (140 euro - 4 days). Anya and Vangelis were on hand for all our needs including unusual places to visit which are a little off the beaten track (Anya supplied us with the best places to visit and eat).

We cannot stress enough how good this hotel is, if you like all singing all dancing hotels then this isn't for you but if you crave peace and quiet this is the place to be.

The staff were very welcoming and made you feel that you were a part of the hotel and not just another customer, examples of this was actually taking interest in what you had done during the day, where you had visited which usually ended up in being informed of more local places to see.

Breakfast is simple, breads, coffee, meats, cheese, fruit etc etc but the essence of this hotel is it's ability to allow you to just get on with relaxing and doing the things you want to do without all the annoyance of the bigger hotels.

Places to see which are a must.

Fiskardo.
Sami.
Poros.
Lixouri.
The Vatsa Club (The best fish restaurant we have ever been to), Just ask Anya for driving details check the pics for the view.
Assos.
Drogarati Cave.
Melissani Cave.

Get a flight, book into the Galaxy and enjoy the warm hospitality which it offers and go forth and soak up what this wonderful island has to offer.

“A very friendly and pleasant place to stay”

This was our first visit to the Galaxy Hotel in early June, the stay was part of a very cheap package deal from onthebeach.com. Its a simple hotel with basic amenities but thats all good. The rooms are clean and a decent size, breakfast is simple but fine, the bar sells draft beer in chilled glasses. Its not the most amazing of places but then its very inexpensive. The location is between Argostoli and Lassi, it would take about 30 mins to walk to Argostoli and 45 mins to Lassi so you need a car really. Near the hotel there's nothing much except the beautiful coastline and sea, the nearest beach is Fanari but its not the best (but popular with the locals). The great thing about this hotel is the people who run it, its a family run hotel and they are a truly lovely bunch. We felt very welcome and relaxed there, and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone on a tight budget who wants a simple, happy time and plans to explore the island by car/bike.
