“A great alternative to staying in Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

This is a great alternative to staying in Venice. It is between the towns of Dolo and Mira, on the Riviera del Brenta, the canal that runs between Padua and Venice. It is in a villa built in 1884 that has been refurbished as a hotel. Although it has been completely modernized with air conditioning and mini bars in the rooms, it is full of antiques, Murano glass chandeliers, marble, etc. It has a lovely outdoor garden with a fountain. Our room was not big but perfectly adequate. I think they have bigger rooms if you want to pay more. The shower was very big and completely surrounded by pink marble. It is very quiet at night although I did hear some strange animal sounds. All the people who worked there spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. For example, they recommended good restaurants and called in reservations for us. They have a restaurant also but we didn't eat there as it was closed 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. Breakfast is included and has a much bigger offering than most Italian B&Bs. They even have cooked eggs and vegetables. Despite all the variety, we didn't find the breakfasts very tasty. They have a computer if you want to get on the internet. Venice is only a 45 minute bus ride away (quicker if you have a car). The buses run frequently and stop right in front of the hotel (6.20€ round trip). However, the Brenta area has a charm of its own. There are many ancient villas, a few of which are open to the public. You can take a boat tour on the canal. Also, Dolo is an interesting town. We won't hesitate to stay here the next time we are in Italy.

We are delighted that you liked the villa and its garden. The hotel is located between Venice and Padova, along the Riviera del Brenta, home of numerous Palladio villas. It's the perfect place if you want to visit Venice and relax!
We are looking forward to welcoming you again.

“"Impressive villa, wonderful staff"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Wow! From the instant we drove through the gates we were impressed from the immaculate spacious gardens with fountains and statues to the grand entrance and foyer. Soaring ceilings, chandeliers and the biggest fireplace we have seen. The staff were excellent and very helpful despite our lack of Italian. This beautiful villa gave us a feeling of what it must have been like to live in those grandiose times of the past. The restaurant also was excellent. Biggest selection of breakfast goodies we have had anywhere and the maitre d' was superb when we had dinner one night. Location is great as the bus stop is just across the road and tickets can be bought at the little shop about 50 metres away. It was around 40minutes into Venice - just pay attention to the surrounds as you get on the bus so you can recognise when you need to press the buzzer to get off coming home! We think this was the best value accommodation for what it had to offer and would definitely recommend it to our friends. We hope to get back one day!

“Beautiful Villa, Superb Staff, Great Location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We just had a truly amazing stay at this wonderful villa on the Brenta.
We have chosen this venue for its good reviews and for the charm of the villa.
The villa is conveniently located to visit the Brenta region and the historic cities of Venice, Padua and Vicenza.
The rooms are elegant, tall frescoed ceilings, Murano chandeliers, and nice furniture and rugs.
The villa is surrounded by its own very well kept park and within it, the old chapel and stables can be seen.
I would really like to thank all the Staff at Villa Ducale for their continuous assistance and care during our stay.
Laura and Alessandra from reception assisted us with every requests and enquiries in a professional and friendly way.
On our last night I wanted to celebrate and the Chef kindly created a superb menu for us.
Oysters, scampi, eel and tuna were purchased especially for us from the local fish markets and he skillfully prepared us an unforgettable dinner.
I travel a lot and this kind of service does rarely come by.
All the Staff made us feel welcome and they looked after us very well.
I would strongly recommend this establishment.

“Our first stay in a Venetian Villa and we hope to return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

This was something we had wanted to do for some time. We have stayed in several 'residenze d'epoca' in Italy, including a stay in a beautiful palazzo in Umbria. This holiday we were in the Veneto and researched several places along the Brenta Canal, but this was the one that stole our heart. We were so glad they had a room for us in this stunning historic building with frescos on the walls and real Murano chandeliers. Our huge room was on the first floor. To be truthful there was some noise from the main road along the road leading to Venice, but we had known about that before we booked and took along our ear plugs which solved that problem. Breakfast was really plentiful served with a smile.

We were there on a Tuesday when the hotel restaurant was closed, but the lovely receptionist recommended two restaurants along the main road from the hotel. We can't recommend the Re dei Quadri highly enough. Modern Italian decor and cuisine.

“"THEY ALMOST RUINED OUR WEDDING"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

We book this Villa to celebrate our wedding in June/11 -a Saturday- (we live in Canada). We made and confirmed the reservation for the event in Nov/10. A downpayment was sent in Dec/10. Several confirmations were received, info regarding details for the wedding day were discussed with the owner and the front desk's person several times as well.
Then, just 2 months before the wedding (April/11), they sent us an e-mail saying that there had been a mistake (made by an employee that is not longer there and from who we never heard!): they booked 2 weddings for the same day and time (evening)! It took them almost 6 months to find out the error!!! So, they said we had to reschedule our wedding for Sunday!
By that time, most of our guests had booked already tickets and made work arrangements... Villa Ducale did nothing to help us. At the end, we had to find by ourselves another place to celebrate the wedding (more expensive of course due to the short-notice booking). Some of our guests are now not able to come due to the changes.
A lot of money, time and effort wasted!!! We regret and are so disappointed about doing business with Villa Ducale (Venice).
We do not want other people to have this kind of bad experiences... be careful!
NOTE:
We did not stay at the hotel, as stated above, for this reason we cannot rate aspects such as cleanliness, sleep quality, rooms, etc.
This is a clarification from our previous review (same content) that was already removed.
Within the options available to check under the subject "Rate this hotel" there is not the option of "not applicable (N/A)", for that reason at the time of the first review we marked all the aspects with the lowest rate.
