“Good choice”

My wife and I chose Castro Urdiales to be near the ocean and close to Bilbao (about 21 miles away). We were satisfied with Las Rocas and would stay there again.

A common photo is a little misleading because it makes it look like the hotel is on the water. It's not on the water but it is a short walk to the water and you can take a nice stroll toward the center of town. There weren't any obvious, good options for dinner within a short walk from the hotel. We took a very slow (due to road construction) taxi into town for dinner the first night but bought groceries for what we call a "whatnot" dinner the second night and ate in the room. The neighborhood is fairly quiet.

Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was more than adequate.

The breakfast buffet was very good and had a zumo de naranja (orange juice) machine that cuts and squeezes oranges to order. The OJ machines are common in Spain but that's the only one we saw on a buffet during our 22 nights in Spain. The buffet cost about €10.50 per person, a very good value.

The hotel has free wi-fi but we had to stand in front of our door to get a decent signal.

The people at the front desk were very helpful.

We did not have to pay anything for parking very close to the hotel.

Room Tip: try to get a room with an ocean view

“A great place for short stay”

On arrival had to test my poor Spanish but was relieved from doing this by extremely helpful young member of staff. We should've taken his name for his invaluable assistance but he will know who he is by his bandaged finger.

The corner room was fabulous, very spacious and a good view of the beach. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening but the breakfast was very good. If ever we were in the area again would definitely go back.

“Good location”

We stayed at this hotel at the end of our touring holiday in Spain. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable and had lots of extras. The breakfast was buffet style and had a good selection. The set evening meal was good both in value and quality. Staff were generally very friendly although the restaurant manager was a little offhand. We used the hotel garage, 8€ per day, as parking in the street was costly and there wasn’t any space. The hotel is just a few metres from the seafront and it is a lovely walk along the promenade to the main town. This very Spanish seaside town is a great place to start or end a holiday in northern Spain. The main downside was the cost of our room and from walking around the town this did appear to be an expensive part of Spain

“A great hotel in a town of great character.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011 via mobile

Stayed with wife and children (6 and 8) although not enormous fitted four beds comfortably with plenty of room to move around.the fridge with complimentary drinks was a nice touch as where the kettle and hot drinks.if you forget any of your washing kit , don 't worry, bathroom is kitted out with all the essentials , soap shampoo etc but also disposable combs, toothbrush etc. Breakfast was as good as any that I have had worldwide , not a cheap extra if you are paying but definitely worth paying for. Drinks prices in the hotel commensurate with the rest of town. We didn't eat but the food looked good and the restaurant busy.
The town itself is a wonder , 2 wonderful beaches (1 of which is in sight ot the hotel and literally a minutes amble away (and I'm not fit!) although the harbour and old town centre is about 1000 metres away, it is walkable or taxis for 5 euro readily available. The old town is charming and the choice of eateries and tapas bars inumerable , no fake ye olde Spain here , the authentic item , great food , great people, great place. We will be back next year.

Great for a short stay. Friendly and helpful staff.
Very clean, good facilities, great location 20 metres from beach.
Excellent restaurant - good value for money.
Only downside slightly hard beds but did not detract from visit. Would highly recommend.
